Well, strap in folks, because the Holy Redeemer lacrosse team didn't just win their regular season finale, they put on a show for the home crowd against the District 4 Conference Champs from Selinsgrove. It was a spirited contest, but in the end, Holy Redeemer emerged victorious with a decisive 12 to 5 scoreline, wrapping up their season on a high note.
Right from the get-go, Holy Redeemer's offense was cooking, putting pressure on the Selinsgrove defense. The home team's attack was multifaceted, with multiple players finding the back of the net. Gillian Parsons was an absolute force, not only netting three goals but also dishing out two assists, proving she's got that playmaker vision. She didn't stop there, causing two turnovers and, in what might be the stat of the game, dominating the center circle with nine draw controls. Talk about controlling possession! Joining her with a hat trick was Cali Glaser, who also scooped up five ground balls and added a draw control, showing relentless effort all over the field. Izzy Wasley wasn't to be outdone, also bagging three goals, along with a caused turnover and two ground balls. It was a scoring frenzy from these three, keeping the Selinsgrove defense on their heels.
Selinsgrove, for their part, showed why they're conference champions, putting up a fight. Quinn Smith and Abby Raymond each found the back of the net twice, trying to rally their squad. Emily Aument chipped in with a goal as well, adding to Selinsgrove's offensive efforts. But Holy Redeemer's defense, backed by some stellar goaltending, just had an answer for everything.
Speaking of stellar, Hannah Fauerbach contributed two crucial goals for Holy Redeemer, keeping the momentum firmly on their side. Allie Desciak was also active, scoring one goal and assisting on another, complementing that with two ground balls and two draw controls. Emmie O'Shea rounded out the stat sheet with an assist and two ground balls, showing the widespread contribution across the team. And none of this would have been possible without Irelyn Curley in goal, who stood on her head, making ten saves to deny Selinsgrove numerous scoring opportunities. It was a complete team effort, a fitting way to close out the regular season slate.
This week's Sportzwire Athlete of the Week, Gillian Parsons, absolutely dominated this game from every angle. Not only did she light up the scoreboard with three goals and assist on two others, giving her five points, but her defensive and possession work was phenomenal. Recording two caused turnovers shows her commitment on that end, but it was her incredible nine draw controls that truly swung the game in Holy Redeemer's favor, ensuring they had the ball and the opportunities to put points on the board. She was everywhere, and she made a difference every time.
