A thrilling contest saw Wyoming Area snatch a narrow 4 to 3 victory against the Berwick Varsity Bulldogs, showcasing a blend of early power and late-game pitching resilience. The April 14th matchup kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final out.
Wyoming Area wasted no time making their presence felt, pushing three runs across the plate in the very first inning. Ashlee Gustitus delivered a game-changing performance, smashing a home run and driving in three runs, giving her team an early advantage. Addison Gaylord tripled, contributing to the offensive burst, while Alexa Gacek added a double to the scoresheet.
Berwick Varsity steadily chipped away at the lead. In the bottom of the third, they put up two runs, followed by another run in the fifth inning, narrowing the deficit to a single run. Liliana Belles led the Berwick offense, scoring two runs, and Makayla Brown also crossed the plate. Emma Welsh and Lauren Ashworth each contributed an RBI for the Bulldogs.
Wyoming Area’s pitching held strong despite Berwick’s rallies. Londyn Sobeck earned the win, navigating through 5.0 innings, allowing three runs, only one of which was earned, on seven hits, with one walk and three strikeouts. Alexa Gacek then came in to close out the game, pitching 2.0 scoreless innings, surrendering just two hits, walking one, and striking out two, securing the save and the hard-fought victory for Wyoming Area. Makayla Brown pitched a complete game for Berwick Varsity, allowing four earned runs on eight hits, walking four, and striking out nine over 7.0 innings.
