Green Ridge Survives Wild Slugfest, Tops Mountain Top 20-9 in Section 5

MOUNTAIN TOP, Pa. — Fans were treated to a little bit of everything Wednesday night as Green Ridge Little League outlasted Mountain Top, 20-9, in a high-scoring Section 5 9-11 All-Star Tournament matchup.
District 32 champion Green Ridge jumped out early, scoring twice in the first inning behind RBI hits from Michael Meyers and William Mackrell before adding three more in the second to build a 5-0 advantage.
Then the momentum shifted.
Mountain Top erupted for eight runs in the top of the fourth inning, highlighted by Ashton Cook’s grand slam to right field, turning a five-run deficit into an 8-5 lead.
Green Ridge answered immediately.
The District 32 champions put together an eight-run bottom of the fourth to reclaim the lead, with Jordan Vescovi’s bases-clearing triple providing the biggest swing of the inning.
The offense stayed hot in the fifth as Green Ridge plated seven more runs. Vescovi drove in another run with a single, Meyers added a two-run base hit, Liam Kolata delivered a two-run single, and Charlie Trapper capped the scoring with a two-run knock to put the game away.
Green Ridge finished with 16 hits, led by Meyers’ 3-for-4 performance with three RBIs. Vescovi added two hits and a game-high four RBIs, while Alex Cantafio, Leland Kearney, Teddy Kramer and Trapper each collected two hits in the balanced offensive effort.
On the mound, Trapper earned the win in relief, allowing no hits and one unearned run over the final 1⅓ innings after Vescovi and Kolata combined to keep Green Ridge within striking distance.
Mountain Top battled throughout the night, with Cook’s grand slam and four RBIs leading the offense. Matthew Dutrow and Noah Sorber each recorded a hit, while the District 16 champions showed patience at the plate by drawing 10 walks.
In the end, Green Ridge’s response after Mountain Top’s big fourth inning proved to be the difference, as the District 32 champions opened Section 5 play with an entertaining slugfest victory.
