Wallenpaupack field hockey's very own, Emma Ey, was announced as a 2026 participant on the U16 USA Women's National Field Hockey Team.

“It is a huge honor to be named to the U16 USA Junior National Team and potentially represent our country while playing overseas,” said Ey. “This has been a goal of mine since I was a little girl, and I worked extremely hard over the last year to achieve it.”

Ey will attend training camp for the Junior U.S. Women’s National Team at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte this month, as well as every month until high school field hockey play commences.

“I will be coached by some of the best field hockey coaches in the country and play alongside some of the top 2028 and 2029 players in the nation,” said Ey. “This experience will allow me to continue improving as a player.”

If Ey makes the travel team after February’s camp, she will have the opportunity to play four games in a 4 Nations Tournament at HOD Valkenswaard in the Netherlands. They will compete against Belgium, England, and the Netherlands’ national teams. The travel team selection will be announced within the next two weeks. However, it is an honor in itself to be selected for the team while representing our great nation. She will represent the state of Pennsylvania along with 18 other Pennsylvania natives.

Ey’s résumé speaks for itself, and it is no wonder she was selected for this great honor:

    •    2025 U16 Junior Women’s National Team Selection

    •    2025 All-State Awards - Second Team (as a freshman)

    •    2025-Offensive Player of the Year - high school

    •    2025 Times Tribune All-Region

    •    2025 31 goals, 9 assists, 108 steals - 3.55 points per game

    •    2025 Keystone Games - All-Star selection

    •    2025 BRCTV 13 Female Athlete of the Week (October 13)

    •    2024 NFHCA Club Player of the Month - Honorable Mention

    •    2025 NFHCA High School Watchlist

    •    2025 Nexus Championship - Virginia Beach

    •    2025 USA Field Hockey U16 Regional Club Championship selection (Electric Surge as a U14)

    •    2025 USA Field Hockey U16 NIT Player Selection (NEPA Force as a U14)

    •    2024 ESU Camp - All-Star Player / MVP

    •    2024 APEX Futures- All-Star/ MVP selection

The upcoming sophomore just came off a great freshman season, scoring 31 goals, recording 9 assists, and accumulating 108 steals, all while averaging 3.55 points per game.

Along with playing field hockey for Wallenpaupack Area High School, the Electric Surge travel team, and making Team USA, Ey is a part of The Pack, a youth field hockey program founded by her mother, head coach Becky Newcomer, and Mrs. Tiffany Hoffmann.

“This program has given me and many of my high school teammates the opportunity to coach and mentor young female athletes in our area,” said Ey. “I personally coached first- and second-graders, which was challenging, but they were very energetic and looked up to me as a role model.”

The opportunities that field hockey has brought to Ey are endless, including the escape that the sport provides.

“When I play field hockey, my mindset shifts, allowing me to focus on something I truly love and forget about everything else going on in my life,” said Ey. “Many people think I’m crazy for devoting so much time to this sport, but it serves as an outlet for me. It may sound cliché, but field hockey pushes me to be the best version of myself. I also get to spend a lot of quality time with my amazing parents while traveling up and down the East Coast.”

When asked about how her love of the game started in kindergarten, she spoke of her grandmother and grandfather, who introduced her to the sport and encouraged her to compete.

“My Nona (grandmother) is the reason I started playing field hockey,” said Ey. “At a young age, she encouraged me to play, and I’ve always looked up to her because she played as well. My Papa (grandfather), who passed away in 2019, was also my biggest supporter and cheerleader. The month before he passed, he told me he was going to beat cancer and be there to watch me compete. Even today, I feel like he gives me little signs while I’m playing, reminding me that he is watching from above.”

Ey mentioned that without the support of her coaches (Coach Becca and Coach Grace, Coach Lunda, Chris Comisky, Coach Glenn Carr, and Coach Kelsie Sincavage, Coach Newcomer, Coach Watson, and Coach Hart), she would not be in the position she is today. Along with her coaches, her family has played a major role in furthering her field hockey endeavors.

“I want to thank my family for their continued support and commitment to helping me achieve this dream,” said Ey. “I hope to represent our area well and make them proud.”
