Former Riverside standout and St. John’s forward set to continue basketball career overseas

The next stop on Kylie Lavelle’s basketball journey is Switzerland.

Helios Basket, one of the premier women’s basketball clubs in Switzerland, announced on June 14 the signing of the former Riverside High School standout for the 2026-27 season. Lavelle will join the club in Vétroz, Switzerland, and compete in the Swiss Basketball League Women, the nation’s top division for women’s basketball.

For the Moosic native, the opportunity marks the latest chapter in a basketball career that has already taken her from Riverside High School to three NCAA Division I programs before landing on the international stage.

Lavelle leaves behind one of the most decorated careers in Riverside girls basketball history. A three-time Class 3A All-State selection, she helped lead the Vikings to back-to-back District 2 championships while establishing herself as one of the top players in Pennsylvania.

During her remarkable high school career, Lavelle scored 1,910 points and averaged 21.7 points and 10 rebounds per game. She was named Lackawanna League Division Player of the Year in both 2020 and 2021 and finished her senior season averaging 24.7 points and 10 rebounds per contest. Riverside compiled 82 victories during her four seasons with the program, including a trip to the PIAA Class 3A quarterfinals.

Her success earned an opportunity at Drexel University, where she made an immediate impact as a freshman during the 2022-23 season. Lavelle started 23 games, earned CAA All-Rookie Team honors and helped the Dragons capture the Colonial Athletic Association regular-season championship. She averaged 11.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per game while recording a 31-point performance against La Salle in just her second collegiate game.

Following her freshman campaign, Lavelle transferred to Penn State and spent the 2023-24 season competing in the Big Ten Conference. She appeared in 28 games for the Lady Lions and shot 48.1 percent from the field while providing valuable depth and versatility.

Lavelle then finished her collegiate career at St. John’s University, where she spent her final two seasons competing in the BIG EAST Conference. As a junior in 2024-25, she started 23 games and averaged 7.7 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while leading the Red Storm in both field-goal percentage (52.2%) and free-throw percentage (84.0%). She recorded 12 double-digit scoring performances and poured in a season-high 23 points against Xavier.

As a senior during the 2025-26 campaign, the 6-foot-2 forward appeared in all 34 games for St. John’s, averaging 4.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and nearly a block per game while helping the Red Storm compete against some of the nation’s top programs.

Now, Lavelle takes the next step in her basketball career with a move overseas.

Helios Basket has established itself as one of Switzerland’s most successful women’s basketball organizations, capturing six national championships and multiple Swiss Cup titles. The club regularly competes among the country’s elite teams and has a history of welcoming international talent from around the world.

For Lavelle, the signing represents the culmination of years of hard work and perseverance. For the local basketball community, it serves as another reminder that talent developed in Northeastern Pennsylvania can reach far beyond district, state and collegiate competition.

From Moosic to Riverside. From Riverside to Division I basketball. From Division I basketball to the international stage.

Kylie Lavelle’s basketball journey continues, this time in Switzerland.
