Everybody Eats: Dunmore Overwhelms Holy Cross, 63-7,

DUNMORE — Brady McCormick offered a warning after Saturday afternoon’s performance.

“You don’t want to see us with an extra day of practice.”

Holy Cross found out why.

The No. 1 Bucks scored four times in the opening quarter, built a 42-0 halftime lead and had contributions coming from seemingly everywhere in a 63-7 win over the Crusaders.

“Saturday games feel like it’s an advantage, because especially for us, you don’t want to see us with an extra day of practice,” McCormick said. “Team came here, in our place, our town. We own this place. Gave 110% effort, and that’s why the scoreboard said 63.”

Jake Costanzo started the scoring with a 5-yard run before McCormick took over through the air. The quarterback connected with Weston Yannone for 22 yards, Costanzo for 29 and Jack McHale for 31, all for touchdowns in the first quarter.

McCormick finished a perfect 7-for-7 for 118 yards and three touchdowns, distributing his seven completions among five receivers.

“My guys like Weston, Jake, Logan Miller, Jack McHale, they did a great job getting open today,” McCormick said. “Coach McHale makes a great play call with what he saw on the defense. I read the defense very well, and the team played great today.”

The Bucks kept spreading the wealth from there.

Josef Wolff and Colin Coulthard added rushing touchdowns in the second quarter before Wolff opened the second half with a 69-yard kickoff return for a score. Carter Coyle and Jake Donahue later found the end zone as Dunmore pushed the lead to 63-0 through three quarters.

Dunmore finished with 137 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the ground, while McCormick supplied another 118 yards and three scores through the air.

As explosive as the offense has been, McCormick pointed to the other side of the ball as the foundation of Dunmore’s start.

“Our offense has been insanely explosive, but I think our defense has probably been the best part of our entire team,” McCormick said. “We’ve only allowed 14 points this whole season. Defense is probably the most important part of a team. It’s a big Dunmore tradition here.”

That defense held Holy Cross to just one rushing yard on 21 attempts Saturday.

The Crusaders broke through late when Chase Rutkoski connected with Luca Berardi for a 36-yard touchdown. Rutkoski finished with 100 passing yards, with Berardi accounting for 71 of them on three receptions.

For Dunmore, it was another dominant performance and another afternoon where seemingly everyone joined the party.

The Bucks now turn their attention to Lake-Lehman at home Friday night, while Holy Cross prepares to host Montrose next Saturday.
