In a thrilling showdown for the EPC girls basketball title, Easton Area High School edged past Bethlehem Catholic High School 35-34 in a tightly contested championship game that came down to the final moments.
The game lived up to its billing from the opening tip. BECA held a narrow 10-8 advantage after the first quarter, setting the tone for a back-and-forth battle. Easton responded in the second quarter, taking a slim 20-18 lead into halftime. Neither team gave an inch in the third, with Easton clinging to a 30-28 edge heading into the final frame. The fourth quarter was a defensive grind, and the Red Rovers did just enough down the stretch to secure the one-point victory.
Leading the way for Easton was Melina Cole, who scored a game-high 12 points, including two clutch three-pointers that helped swing momentum in the Red Rovers’ favor. Natalie Amato added seven points, while Elena Brunetti and Eva Jordan each contributed six in a balanced offensive effort.
Bethlehem Catholic was powered by Kamryo Gallis and Aliyah Brame, who each scored nine points to pace the Golden Hawks. Kendall Nickischer chipped in six, keeping BECA within striking distance throughout the contest.
Free-throw shooting proved to be a decisive factor. Easton converted 9 of 12 attempts from the line, capitalizing on key opportunities in a game where every possession mattered. BECA was efficient as well, going 6-for-7, but the extra trips to the stripe ultimately helped tilt the outcome.
