Blue Mountain opened its state playoff run in dominant fashion Monday, blanking Central Columbia 6-0 in the opening round of the PIAA Class 4A tournament.

The Eagles leaned on a stellar pitching performance from sophomore Emily Leonard, who carried a no-hit bid deep into the game and finished with a one-hit shutout. Leonard struck out seven and walked two while keeping Central Columbia's lineup off balance throughout all seven innings.

Blue Mountain wasted little time taking control. After putting runners aboard in the top of the first, Karley Koch delivered the game's first big swing, ripping a two-run double to give the Eagles an early advantage.

That lead proved more than enough for Leonard, but Blue Mountain continued to apply pressure offensively. Speed once again became a major factor as Addyson Fishburn and Da'Shawna Vincent created problems on the bases all afternoon. Fishburn scored twice, collected two hits, drove in a run and stole a base, while Vincent added two hits, two runs scored and a stolen base of her own.

The Eagles added to their cushion in the middle innings with contributions throughout the lineup. Aryana Reilly and McKenna Manbeck each drove in runs as Blue Mountain steadily widened the gap. Koch's first-inning double remained the game's biggest hit, but the Eagles' ability to manufacture offense and capitalize on scoring opportunities kept Central Columbia on its heels.

Central Columbia's lone hit came off the bat of Kayla Poust. Pitcher Teddi Snavely battled through all seven innings, striking out nine Blue Mountain hitters, but the Eagles capitalized on key opportunities and defensive miscues to build their six-run lead.

Defensively, Blue Mountain backed Leonard with solid play behind her, turning a double play and allowing only three Central Columbia baserunners all game.

With the victory, Blue Mountain improved to 24-2 and advanced to the PIAA Class 4A quarterfinals, where the Eagles will face District 1 champion Pope John Paul II on Thursday. The site and game time are expected to be announced by the PIAA on Tuesday.
