Dominant Pitching and Early Offense Push Newtown Edgemont Past Back Mountain in 12U District Clash

Newtown Edgemont set the tone early and relied on a commanding performance on the mound to secure a 5-0 victory over Back Mountain on Thursday.

Newtown jumped out to a fast start in the bottom of the first inning. After loading the bases through patience at the plate, Graeme Geary delivered the game’s first major breakthrough with two outs. Geary drove a clutch double to deep right field, bringing home both Luke Piselli and Jamie Lukach to stake Newtown to an immediate 2-0 lead.

With the early advantage in place, Newtowns starting pitcher John Sirolli took complete control of the contest. Sirolli was relentless on the hill, holding Back Mountain hitless through the first three frames while recording eight of his first nine outs via strikeout.

Sirolli helped his own cause in the bottom of the third, driving a solo home run over the left-field fence to stretch the lead to 3-0. Newtown expanded the cushion further in the fourth frame, capitalizing on disciplined situational hitting. Logan Harfst and Geary both picked up RBIs on back-to-back sacrifice flies to center field, bringing home Charlie Corsanico and Lukach to make it a 5-0 contest.

Back Mountain looked to spark a rally in the top of the fourth when Ethan Wielgosz grounded a single to left field to break up the no-hitter. However, Newtown Edgemont's defense quickly closed the door to preserve the shutout. Back Mountain played clean defensive baseball throughout the day, surrendering zero errors in the field.
