In an environment that felt more like late February than mid-January, Dallas and Wilkes-Barre Area delivered a high-level, playoff-caliber battle Tuesday night that lived up to the hype. Two of the Wyoming Valley Conference’s top programs traded punches for four quarters and beyond, before Dallas finally pulled away in overtime for a hard-earned 77–72 victory.

The game was back-and-forth from the opening tip, with neither team able to create separation during regulation. Wilkes-Barre Area surged behind a strong offensive rhythm, while Dallas countered with poise, toughness, and timely shot-making. Regulation ended deadlocked at 67, setting the stage for a tense overtime period that showcased championship-level composure.

Senior leader Kael Berry set the tone for Dallas, pouring in 26 points and making his presence felt in every phase of the game. Berry’s steady scoring and leadership helped calm the Mountaineers during critical moments, especially when momentum swung. Joey Nocito added 23 points, continuing his strong season, while Pat Flanagan delivered when it mattered most, scoring all 14 of his points in the second half and overtime.

Dallas seized control in overtime, outscoring Wilkes-Barre Area 10–5 by leaning on defensive stops and efficient execution to close the door. The win keeps Dallas undefeated in conference play and further cements its status as one of the WVC’s elite teams.

Wilkes-Barre Area showed why it remains a dangerous opponent. David Januzzi finished with 31 points, including four three-pointers, consistently answering Dallas runs, while Mike Keating added 21 points in a strong supporting effort.

This matchup was another chapter in what has become a high-level rivalry over the past few seasons, with both programs consistently playing some of the best basketball in the area. For Dallas, the challenge doesn’t ease up, as the Mountaineers head to Crestwood on Thursday night for another statement test against a Comets squad that has proven itself as one of the region’s top teams.

If Tuesday night was any indication, Dallas is battle-tested — and the road ahead will only continue to sharpen a team with championship aspirations.
