Dallas Comes Out Firing, Rolls Past Valley West 45-12

DALLAS — The first two big plays didn’t count. The message certainly did.

Dallas came out firing Friday night against Wyoming Valley West, twice finding the end zone on its opening possessions only to have both scores erased by penalties. Instead of allowing the flags to derail the fast start, the Mountaineers simply kept coming.

By the end of the first quarter, Dallas had built a 21-0 advantage and was well on its way to a convincing 45-12 victory in a Wyoming Valley Conference matchup.

Quarterback Talan Geskey was nearly flawless through the air, completing 8-of-9 passes for 179 yards and four touchdowns, and his early connection with Tyce Mason helped Dallas break the game open.

Geskey found Mason for touchdowns of 59 and 27 yards in the opening quarter. Mason finished with three catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns.

Dallas wasn’t limited to the passing game, either.

Mark Saracinaj added 95 rushing yards on 10 carries and scored twice, including a 53-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Geskey later connected with Brady McCann for a 13-yard score and Michael Viglone for a 21-yard touchdown.

The Mountaineers finished with 367 yards of total offense, including 188 on the ground and 179 through the air. Their defense kept Valley West off the scoreboard through the first three quarters and intercepted quarterback Damien Eastman once.

Valley West found some offensive rhythm late. Eastman finished 17-of-33 for 239 yards and two touchdowns, while Malique Campbell led the receiving corps with five catches for 108 yards and a score. Noah Council hauled in the Spartans’ other touchdown.

But Dallas had created far too much separation by then.

The Mountaineers led 21-0 after one, 24-0 at halftime and 31-0 entering the fourth, turning what began as an explosive opening into a wire-to-wire performance.

And now comes a Week 3 matchup worth circling.

Dallas will remain home to face Abington Heights, a matchup that has all the makings of one of the area’s marquee games next week.

Wyoming Valley West, meanwhile, travels to face West Scranton, where it will run into a Invaders program off to a 2-0 start for the first time in more than a decade.

After what Dallas showed Friday night, the Mountaineers look ready for the step up in competition.

Two touchdowns called back. No panic. Just keep firing.
