Friday night baseball at PNC Field brought clean defense, timely hitting, and a playoff-style atmosphere as Valley View and West Scranton squared off under the lights. And once the Cougars grabbed momentum early, they never really let it go.
Valley View used a strong second inning and a composed performance on the mound from Troy Williams to earn a 5-1 victory over West Scranton on Friday night in Moosic.
The Cougars struck first in the second inning when Jonathan Anuszewski lined a two-run single to put Valley View ahead early. From there, the offense continued to manufacture quality at-bats and apply pressure throughout the game.
Kevin Essig added to the attack with two RBIs of his own, while Anuszewski and Maddox Carey both collected two hits to lead the Valley View lineup.
On the mound, Williams kept the Invaders from building momentum. The right-hander tossed a complete game, allowing just one unearned run across seven innings while scattering five hits.
West Scranton battled throughout and played a clean game defensively without committing an error. Julian Poniatowski led the Invaders offensively with a pair of hits, while Aiden Williams anchored things defensively with a team-high number of chances.
Valley View also showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks and turning a key double play defensively to help maintain control late in the game.
Friday night. PNC Field. Crisp baseball under the lights. And by the end of it, the Cougars walked out with another solid win.
