BENSALEM, PA — Crestwood battled back from an early deficit and held off a furious fourth-quarter push to secure a 60–58 victory over Holy Ghost Prep Friday night in the opening round of the PIAA Class 5A state tournament.
The Comets found themselves trailing early after Holy Ghost Prep jumped out to an 11–5 lead after the first quarter, but Crestwood responded with a strong second period to flip the momentum. The Comets outscored the Firebirds 18–5 in the second quarter, turning a six-point deficit into a 23–16 halftime advantage.
Crestwood continued to build its lead in the third quarter, edging Holy Ghost Prep 19–14 in the frame to extend the margin to 42–30 heading into the fourth.
Holy Ghost Prep mounted a furious comeback in the final quarter, erupting for 28 points, but Crestwood managed to withstand the surge and hold on for the two-point win.
Senior Gio Barna led the Comets with 19 points, knocking down three three-pointers to pace the offense. Ayden Agapito added 15 points, while Miles Metz contributed 10 points and Connor Wagaman chipped in 8.
Holy Ghost Prep was led by Max Milici, who scored a game-high 17 points, including four three-pointers. Adam McDonald added 13 points, while Liam Condon finished with 11.
Despite Holy Ghost Prep hitting five three-pointers, Crestwood’s ability to get to the free-throw line proved critical. The Comets converted 18 of 25 free throws, compared to 14 of 32 for Holy Ghost Prep.
With the victory, Crestwood advances to the next round of the PIAA Class 5A state tournament, continuing its postseason run after finishing as the District 2 runner-up.
