Crestwood Varsity Comets put on an offensive clinic on Thursday, dispatching Wilkes-Barre Area Wolfpack Varsity Softball with a commanding 19-4 victory. The Comets' bats were hot from the start, setting the tone early and never looking back.
Crestwood wasted no time getting on the board, with Alekzandria Dutko singling in the first inning to score the game's first run. The momentum truly picked up in the top of the second, as the Comets piled on runs. Holly Rodgers blasted a solo home run to center field, followed by a double from Celia Stahlnecker. Kayla Sinavage then doubled to left field, Emilie Stofko singled to center, and Alekzandria Dutko capped off the scoring with another single down the left field line, each driving in a run and extending Crestwood's lead.
The Comets exploded for eight more runs on nine hits in the top of the fourth inning. Alexa Toniatti doubled, bringing in two runs. Brianna Petzold singled, scoring two more. Jayla Lomerson drew a walk that pushed a run across. Celia Stahlnecker then doubled, driving in another run, followed by Kayla Sinavage's single for a run, and Emilie Stofko's single which also added to the tally.
Crestwood continued its relentless offense in the top of the fifth, adding five more runs on five hits. Kayla Sinavage executed a sacrifice fly that scored two runs. Elyse Ricko singled, driving in a run, and Delaney Begley followed with a single for another score. Lily Curtiss grounded out, allowing one more run to cross the plate, sealing the dominant performance.
Brooke Lenahan was the winning pitcher for Crestwood, delivering a strong performance. Lenahan allowed seven hits and four runs over five innings, striking out five batters and walking only one. For Wilkes-Barre Area, K Martin took the loss, pitching three innings and giving up 12 runs (11 earned) on 15 hits, with one strikeout and two walks.
Crestwood Varsity Comets accumulated an impressive 23 hits in the game. Celia Stahlnecker was a force at the plate, leading the Comets with four hits in four at bats. Kayla Sinavage was the top run producer, leading Crestwood with three runs batted in on her 2-for-4 day. Brianna Petzold, Alekzandria Dutko, Emilie Stofko, Brooke Lenahan, and Holly Rodgers all contributed multiple hits for Crestwood.
Aubrey Weitz led Wilkes-Barre Area at the plate, going 2-for-3. Omaryze Contreras, Grace Simko, and Aubrey Weitz each drove in one run for Wilkes-Barre Area. The Wolfpack defense turned one double play during the contest.
