Scranton Prep is starting to look more and more like a team nobody wants to see down the stretch. After recent statement wins over Scranton and Abington Heights, the Cavaliers added another big result Wednesday night—taking down SportzWire No. 3 Riverside in a high-energy 11-6 battle.

The Vikings entered with just one loss on the season, but Scranton Prep’s bats came alive early and never really cooled off.

The Cavaliers wasted little time jumping in front in the opening inning. Johnny Petrosky sparked the offense with a triple to right before Zach Charneski and Joey Connolly followed with RBI singles to quickly build momentum.

Prep kept the pressure on in the second inning as Petrosky and Charneski each added another RBI, then Chase Liska delivered one of the biggest swings of the night in the third with a two-run single to right.

Petrosky later added the exclamation point in the fifth inning, launching a two-run homer to left as the Cavaliers continued to pile on.

While Riverside battled throughout, Scranton Prep’s offense simply kept answering.

The Cavaliers finished with 13 hits, led by Petrosky’s huge night at the plate. The standout went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while AJ Croom matched him with three hits and three runs scored from the top of the lineup.

Liska added three RBIs, Charneski collected two hits and two RBIs, and Joey Connolly reached base three times while driving in a run.

On the mound, Gavin Turel earned the win after working six innings and limiting damage against one of the area’s top lineups.

Riverside continued to compete offensively, getting RBIs from Cooper Borowski, Caleb Sosa, Ben Kulikowski, and Chris Graff. Graff led the Vikings with two hits in the loss.

Despite the setback, Riverside showed flashes of why it’s been one of the top teams in the region all spring. But Wednesday belonged to a Scranton Prep squad that continues to build momentum at exactly the right time.

Quality wins are stacking up for the Cavaliers and the rest of District 2 is starting to notice as the postseason nears.
