BLAKELY, Pa. — Championship Saturday ended in storybook fashion at Blakely Recreational Complex.
Following the Carbino Club Archbald Minors’ District 32 title earlier in the day, the Majors squad completed the sweep, defeating Green Ridge Little League 11-0 in a game that featured everything from a summer rain shower to a thunderous grand slam.
With dark clouds rolling in during the second inning, play continued on through some showers and Carbino wasted little time making the most of the moment.
The District champions broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the second as Enzo Nicastro ripped an RBI double to center field before Jacob Lapiers and Kaden Pizzola each forced in runs to build a 3-0 advantage.
Then came the knockout punch.
Carbino exploded for eight runs in the third inning, turning a close championship game into a frenzy.
Nicastro delivered another clutch hit with a two-run single before Elio Brunori brought everyone to their feet, launching a towering grand slam to center field that sent the home crowd into an uproar. Silas Wilson later drew a bases-loaded walk, and another run crossed on an error as Carbino poured it on.
While the offense grabbed the headlines, Talon Prutzman quietly authored another dominant outing on the mound. The right-hander scattered just two hits over four scoreless innings, striking out six while allowing only one walk to earn the championship victory.
Carbino finished with six hits, led by Nicastro, who went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, while Brunori drove home four runs with his unforgettable grand slam. The disciplined lineup also drew eight walks, continually applying pressure throughout the afternoon.
Green Ridge battled throughout the contest, turning a double play and receiving base hits from Daniel Haggerty and Logan Yeager, but Carbino’s timely hitting and strong pitching proved too much to overcome.
By the final out, the celebration was on.
With District 32 championship banners now belonging to both the Minors and Majors, Carbino Club Archbald completed an unforgettable championship doubleheader on its home field and now turns its attention toward the next challenge as postseason play continues in the Section 5 tournament.
