Call Dominates on Mound and at Plate for Cougars Shutout

Valley View Cougars secured a 5-0 victory over Northern Lebanon Varsity Viking on Monday to advance, largely thanks to a powerful pitching performance by Abbi Call and timely hitting. The win showcased a strong defensive effort and consistent offensive production from the Valley View lineup.
The Cougars opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Cora Castellani delivered a triple, driving in a run. Valley View extended its lead in the fourth inning, adding two more runs. Maggie Hallett started the rally with a single, and after Abbi Call reached base, Zoie Krupovich’s sacrifice fly brought Abbi Call home. Lily Smith, running as a courtesy runner, later scored on a groundout by Ashlan Palickar. In the fifth, Mady Minelli hit a triple and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Navaeh Evans, further building the lead. Abbi Call then capped off the scoring in the sixth inning with a solo home run to left field, solidifying the Cougars’ advantage.
Abbi Call was a dominant force in the circle for Valley View, pitching a complete game shutout. She went all seven innings, allowing just five hits and zero runs, and did not issue any walks. Call also showcased her impressive strikeout ability, recording 13 strikeouts throughout the contest. For Northern Lebanon, Addison Hollenbach pitched six innings, giving up five runs, three of which were earned, on four hits. Hollenbach also collected 10 strikeouts for her team.
Northern Lebanon’s offense managed to tally five hits against the strong pitching, with Alyssa Shirey, Makenzie West, Stephanie Palkovic, Addison Hollenbach, and Mykenah Johnson each contributing a hit to their team’s effort. Despite their efforts at the plate, the Vikings were unable to convert their baserunners into runs. The game was played with competitive energy from both dugouts, reflecting a dedicated performance on the field.
