DUNMORE — If there were any questions about who’s steering the District 2 Class 3A bracket, Dunmore answered them in the opening eight minutes.

The defending champion Lady Bucks wasted no time turning the quarterfinal into a track meet, a clinic, and a reminder, all at once, racing out to a 23-0 first-quarter lead on their home floor. By halftime, it was 36-8, and the message was clear: the road to Mohegan Arena still runs through Dunmore.

Carbondale Area simply had no answers for the Bucks’ defensive pressure and balanced scoring attack. Dunmore knocked down five threes on the night and turned stops into easy transition buckets, keeping the Chargerettes on their heels from the opening tip.

Three Lady Bucks finished in double figures, showcasing the depth that makes them so dangerous heading into March. Leena Conte led the charge with 13 points, while Amanda Dempsey and Jackie Brown each added 10. Quinn King chipped in nine as Dunmore’s offensive rhythm never wavered.

For Carbondale Area, Alexis Nykaza paced the Chargerettes with seven points as they battled to the final buzzer despite the early deficit.

The final: Dunmore 64, Carbondale Area 17.

The Bucks now turn their attention to Friday night, when they’ll host No. 4 Riverside at 7 p.m. in the semifinals, one win away from a return trip to the arena and a shot at defending their crown.

Dunmore didn’t just win Tuesday night.

They made a statement.
