Brandon Matthews, NEPA Invitational Kick Off Week With Free Junior Golf Clinic

CLARKS SUMMIT — Before the professionals tee it up and the fundraising takes center stage, the sixth annual NEPA Invitational will begin its week by putting the focus on the next generation.
PGA TOUR professional and Northeast Pennsylvania native Brandon Matthews will host the NEPA Invitational Junior Golf Clinic today, Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 4:30 p.m. at the Country Club of Scranton.
The free clinic has become an important part of Invitational week, giving local junior golfers an opportunity to learn directly from Matthews. The event includes instruction on different shots, swing feedback, questions about life on tour and, in keeping with tradition, free ice cream for the kids.
For Matthews, it’s also another way to bring his professional golf journey back to the community where it began.
More Than Golf
Now entering its sixth year, the NEPA Invitational has developed into one of the region’s signature golf and charitable events.
Through the NEPA Invitational Fund at the Scranton Area Community Foundation, more than $800,000 has been provided to organizations throughout Northeast Pennsylvania. The initiative has also established the William Lawler Scholarship to support local junior golfers.
The 2026 beneficiaries include Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital, Children’s Advocacy Center of NEPA, Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Ronald McDonald House of Scranton and MyCIL, with funds supporting healthcare, youth programs, families and people with disabilities throughout the region.
That connection between golf and giving is especially visible at the junior clinic. The Invitational’s mission extends beyond raising money; junior golf scholarships and creating access to the game for young people remain central pieces of the organization.
A Big Weekend Ahead
Tonight’s clinic is only the beginning.
On Friday, Sept. 25, the Harmony for Hope Gala will officially kick off Invitational weekend at the Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple, bringing together golfers, donors, sponsors and community members for an evening centered around the event’s charitable mission.
Then the golf takes over.
The sixth annual NEPA Invitational will be played Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26–27, at the Country Club of Scranton, bringing professionals and amateurs together for two days of competition with a larger purpose.
What began as Matthews’ hometown vision has continued to grow, creating opportunities for aspiring golfers while turning the game that took him beyond Northeast Pennsylvania into a vehicle for giving back to it.
Wednesday starts with the kids. By the weekend, the impact reaches across NEPA.
