SCRANTON — If there was any doubt about Scranton’s mindset heading into the District 2 Class 6A semifinals, it was erased in the opening quarter.
The Lady Knights didn’t just start fast — they detonated.
By the time the first eight minutes expired, Scranton had built a 24-15 lead, riding a wave of perimeter shooting and relentless pace. By halftime, it was 42-23. And by the end of the third, the route was on.
Final: Scranton 72, Delaware Valley 43.
Sharpshooters Set the Tone
Scranton buried 12 three-pointers, and the backcourt duo of Jaelyn Alers and Rhylee Bell put on a show.
Alers finished with 19 points, knocking down four triples, stretching the defense and igniting the crowd. Bell matched her from deep with four threes of her own, finishing with 16 points in a confident, composed performance.
And then there was Chrissy Jacklinski, steady and aggressive all night. She poured in a team-high 23 points, attacking inside and out while controlling tempo when it mattered most.
Johannes Baez added eight, giving Scranton another weapon in a balanced offensive attack that never cooled.
Delaware Valley’s Effort
The Lady Warriors were led by Leah Bird, who scored 13 points, eight of them in the opening quarter to keep things competitive early. Brianna Waldron added nine, and Amanda Aragona chipped in eight in a hard-fought effort.
But Scranton’s shooting depth proved too much to overcome.
Next Stop: The Arena
With the win, Scranton advances to the District 2 Class 6A championship game, a highly anticipated rematch of last year’s final against the Hazleton Lady Cougars.
The stage shifts to Mohegan Arena, where tipoff is set for Friday at 6 p.m.
The nets were snapping in Scranton on semifinal night.
Now the Lady Knights are headed back to the big stage and the stakes just got higher.
