Blue Mountain Stays Perfect, Advances to Championship Series

JENKINS TWP. — Blue Mountain continues to answer every challenge.
The Section 6 champions remained unbeaten Friday evening at the Pennsylvania Little League Majors State Tournament, defeating Newtown-Edgmont, 9-2, in the winners bracket final at Jenkins Township Little League.
The victory punches Blue Mountain’s ticket directly into Monday’s Pennsylvania State Championship Series, where they’ll need just one win to capture the state title and advance to the Little League Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament in Bristol.
Meanwhile, Newtown-Edgmont isn’t done yet.
The Section 8 champions drop into the elimination bracket final, where they’ll face the winner of Saturday’s matchup between Hollidaysburg and East Side. The winner of that game advances to Sunday’s elimination final against Newtown-Edgmont, with the survivor earning the opportunity to challenge unbeaten Blue Mountain on Monday.
Blue Mountain seized control early Friday.
After a scoreless first inning, the Section 6 champions erupted for four runs in the second. Chase Goodman delivered an RBI double, Owen Borger added an RBI single, and Blue Mountain capitalized on timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to build a commanding lead.
Newtown-Edgmont answered in the third when Charlie Corsanico lined an RBI double to score Jai Bhan, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
Blue Mountain responded immediately.
Anthony Grimminger crushed a solo home run in the fourth before the offense added three more runs in the fifth. Judein Marx drove in two runs during the late surge as Blue Mountain extended the lead to 9-1.
John Sirolli brought home Newtown-Edgmont’s final run with an RBI single in the fifth, but Blue Mountain’s pitching staff shut the door from there.
Goodman earned the win, allowing two runs on just two hits over four innings while striking out four. Max Porrino recorded two outs in relief before Grimminger closed out the final four outs, striking out two to secure the victory.
Blue Mountain finished with eight hits, led by Joe Minnick and Jayse Callaghan, who each collected two. Grimminger homered and scored twice, while Judein Marx drove in a team-high two RBIs. Goodman, Borger, Ike Schneider, Christian Machamer, Jacob Gombar, and Anthony Grimminger also contributed RBIs in the balanced offensive effort.
Newtown-Edgmont managed five hits, with Corsanico finishing 2-for-2 with a double, walk, and RBI. Sirolli added an RBI single, while Brayden Humphreys and Jamie Lukach each recorded a hit.
Now, Blue Mountain waits.
One unbeaten team remains. Two elimination games still stand between the rest of the field and a shot at the Section 6 champions, who are now just one victory away from a Pennsylvania State Championship.
