Just days after falling short in the District 2 Class 2A championship, Wyoming Seminary responded with resilience Friday night.
The Blue Knights opened the PIAA state playoffs with a hard-fought 32–27 victory over Muncy, leaning on defense and a dominant performance from junior standout Ella Stambaugh, who poured in a game-high 21 points.
The game started as a defensive battle. Muncy held a 6–4 lead after the first quarter, but Seminary settled in during the second period. Behind strong interior play from Stambaugh and key contributions from senior Ellie Kersey, the Blue Knights surged ahead to take a 17–13 halftime advantage.
Seminary continued to build momentum coming out of the break. The Blue Knights controlled the third quarter and stretched the lead to 25–16 heading into the fourth.
Muncy refused to go quietly. The Indians made a late push in the final frame, fueled by a strong night from Ava Eyer, who scored 20 of Muncy’s 27 points. Muncy outscored Seminary 11–7 in the fourth quarter, trimming the lead to five in the closing minutes.
But Seminary’s defense held firm down the stretch.
Kersey finished with 9 points, knocking down two three-pointers that proved crucial in the low-scoring contest, while freshman Natalina DeNaples added 2 points.
Despite going just 2-for-9 from the free throw line, Seminary relied on efficient field-goal shooting and disciplined defense to secure the win.
The victory sends the Blue Knights into the next round of the PIAA Class 2A state tournament, as Seminary looks to build momentum after its strong District 2 run that ended with a runner-up finish to Mountain View.
