Bloomsburg University Defeated Lackawanna College 42-10 in Homecoming Game

The Lackawanna College Falcons celebrated Homecoming on Saturday, but it was the visiting Bloomsburg University Huskies who came away with a 42-10 victory.

Bloomsburg wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. The Huskies received the opening kickoff and put together a strong opening drive, moving the ball into Lackawanna territory before Zayd Etheridge connected with Justin Wolfe on a 7-yard RPO touchdown. The extra point by Peter Kashynski made it 7-0.

The Huskies added to their lead on their next scoring opportunity after Lackawanna was deep into their territory because of a muffed kickoff return leading to an interception by Brady Thompson moved the Huskies inside the Falcons’ 10-yard line. Bloomsburg finished the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run by Declan Clancy to make it 14-0.

Lackawanna struggled to generate momentum offensively. After another stalled drive near midfield, the Falcons later put together a promising possession that reached the Bloomsburg 21-yard line. However, a pass was dropped on third down, and the Falcons’ field-goal attempt was blocked by Bloomsburg’s Ian Donohue.

The Huskies took advantage once again. A series of runs and a pass moved Bloomsburg deep into Lackawanna territory before Clancy run the ball up the middle for a 1-yard touchdown extended the lead to 21-0.

Huskies Continue to Control the First Half

Lackawanna began to find some success moving the football in the second quarter. Penalties against Bloomsburg helped the Falcons sustain a drive, including a roughing-the-kicker penalty that gave Lackawanna another first down. The Falcons eventually reached the Bloomsburg 34-yard line and converted a fourth down with a pass, however, the drive ended when Bloomsburg’s Tyler Frey intercepted the pass in the end zone.

The Huskies quickly turned the turnover into points. On the second play of the ensuing drive, Etheridge connected with Xavier Diaz for an 80-yard touchdown, pushing the Huskies’ advantage to 28-0.

Lackawanna continued to battle and put together another solid drive late in the first half. The Falcons moved the ball to the Bloomsburg 13-yard line with just over a minute remaining, but the drive stalled at the 16-yard line. Lackawanna settled for a 33-yard field goal, cutting the deficit to 28-3.

Bloomsburg received a short kickoff and took a knee to close out the first half, sending the Huskies into halftime with a 28-3 advantage.

Bloomsburg Pulls Away

Lackawanna received the opening kickoff of the second half and moved the ball into Bloomsburg territory, but the drive eventually stalled. The Huskies, however, responded with another explosive play. After a couple of short runs, Clancy broke loose for a 36-yard touchdown run, increasing the lead to 35-3.

Lackawanna continued to fight and later drove inside the Bloomsburg 20-yard line. The Falcons went for it on fourth-and-goal, but the Huskies’ defense stopped the play in the backfield, turning the ball over on downs. Bloomsburg was unable to capitalize on that possession, giving Lackawanna another opportunity.

The Falcons finally found the end zone late in the third quarter. On fourth-and-six, a pass drew a pass interference penalty against Bloomsburg, moving the ball to the Huskies’ 34-yard line. Lackawanna continued driving the ball and eventually reached the 8-yard line. Jalen Flether with a 3-yard touchdown run put the Falcons on the scoreboard again, making it 35-10.

Bloomsburg answered with another scoring drive. The Huskies used their running game to move into the red zone before connecting on a 4-yard touchdown pass to Justin Wolfe, extending their lead to 42-10.

Lackawanna attempted one final scoring drive in the fourth quarter, reaching the Bloomsburg 46-yard line. However, the Falcons were stopped on fourth-and-2, turning the ball over on downs with less than six minutes remaining.

The Huskies then relied on their running game to drain the clock and secure the 42-10 victory.

Lackawanna College will hit the road next Saturday when the Falcons travel to Andre Reed Stadium to take on the Kutztown University Golden Bears. The game is scheduled for 12 p.m. on October 10. Kutztown enters the matchup as one of the top programs in Division II football. The Golden Bears were selected as the unanimous favorite to win the PSAC East in the 2026 preseason coaches poll and are coming off a season in which they reached the Division II quarterfinals. For the Falcons, the matchup will provide another opportunity to compete against one of the PSAC’s premier programs. After facing Bloomsburg on Homecoming, Lackawanna will look to regroup during the week and prepare for a tough road test against the Golden Bears.
