Baseball Action: District 4 1A Champs Benton Tigers over Cowanesque Valley 6-4

Benton secured a 6-4 victory over Cowanesque Valley in a neutral conference tournament baseball game on Friday. Benton, the District 4 1A Champion, overcame a four-error outing to outhit their opponents and clinch the win.

The game started quietly through two innings, with both teams scoreless. Benton broke the deadlock in the top of the third with one run. Cowanesque Valley responded in the bottom half, scoring two runs to take a narrow 2-1 lead. However, Benton mounted a significant rally in the fourth inning, plating four runs to establish a 5-2 advantage. Cowanesque Valley fought back in the fifth, adding two runs to cut Benton's lead to 5-4, but could not complete the comeback. Benton added an insurance run in the sixth inning, ultimately holding on for the 6-4 final score.

Offensively for Benton, Owen Beishline was a standout performer, going three for four at the plate with three runs scored and three stolen bases. Ben Farwell contributed significantly with two hits, three runs batted in, and one run scored, also adding a stolen base. Cole Sorber also had a strong day, collecting two hits and one run batted in, along with a stolen base. Layne Latorra chipped in with a hit and a run, while Ryder Wilson hit a double. On the mound, Owen Beishline closed out the game effectively, pitching 2.1 innings of no-hit baseball and striking out three batters. Ben Farwell started, allowing four hits and two earned runs over 4.2 innings.

For Cowanesque Valley, Dave Hess was a key contributor, hitting a triple and driving in a run while also scoring once. Camden Stahli had a hit and crossed the plate twice, and Ayren Morgan recorded a hit, an RBI, and a stolen base. Gavin Churchill also notched a hit, and Levi Stahli recorded an RBI. On the pitching side, Ayren Morgan struck out four batters in 3.2 innings, surrendering two earned runs on five hits. Levi Stahli pitched three innings, allowing one earned run on four hits and striking out three.
