Walk-Off Worthy: Abington Blue Captures District 17 Crown, Eyes Return Trip to States
Clarks Summit, Pa. — Championship baseball rarely comes easy, and Saturday’s District 17 Majors title game delivered every bit of the drama fans could hope for.
In front of a packed crowd at the Ackerly Fairgrounds, Abington Little League Blue used timely hitting, outstanding pitching and flawless defense to edge Moosic Little League, 3-2, capturing the 2026 District 17 Championship and earning a return trip to the Section 5 Tournament.
The Blue All-Stars struck first in the bottom of the second inning. Max Shursky laced an RBI double into center field to score Owen Walsh before Bradley McDonald followed with a sacrifice fly, giving Abington an early 2-0 advantage.
Moosic refused to go quietly.
The District 17 runners-up battled back in the fourth inning, manufacturing two runs on a pair of ground-ball RBIs to even the game at 2-2 and set up a tense finish.
With the championship hanging in the balance, Abington answered in the bottom of the sixth.
Caleb Engerman was hit by a pitch to begin the inning, advanced into scoring position and eventually raced home on a wild pitch to score the decisive run, sending the home crowd into celebration as Abington reclaimed the lead for good.
Pitching was the story throughout the afternoon.
Evan Ross continued his dominant postseason, working 5⅔ innings while allowing just six hits and two unearned runs. The right-hander struck out seven and walked two before turning the ball over to Shursky, who recorded the game’s final out to lock down the District 17 championship.
Moosic ace Wyatt Davis was equally impressive, keeping his club within striking distance by striking out nine over 5⅓ innings while allowing just three hits and three earned runs.
Abington’s defense also delivered when it mattered most. The Blue All-Stars played another error-free game, highlighted by a pivotal sixth-inning double play started by Carson Walsh at shortstop that helped extinguish Moosic’s final rally.
Declan Grady led Abington offensively with two of the team’s three hits. Shursky drove in a run with his RBI double, McDonald added a sacrifice fly, Walsh crossed the plate after drawing a key walk, and Engerman’s aggressive baserunning ultimately produced the championship-winning run.
For Moosic, Jack Pierson collected two hits to lead the offense, while Gio Sosa doubled and drove in a run. Maddox Trescavage, Brady James and Scott Felter each added hits in a strong effort.
The victory also marked a fitting ending to Abington’s summer at Jim Hatton Field, allowing the Blue All-Stars to celebrate a district championship on their home diamond before moving on to the next stage of the postseason.
Now, another challenge awaits. Abington Little League Blue advances to next week’s Section 5 Tournament, where the District 17 champions will look to earn a return trip to the Pennsylvania Little League State Tournament after last season’s memorable run.
