A Throw to Remember: Sophia Adams Earns All-American Honors at AAU Junior Olympics

For Sophia Adams, an already impressive javelin season ended on the biggest stage with her best throw yet.

Competing against some of the top young throwers in the country at the AAU Track and Field Junior Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa, Adams delivered when it mattered most. The 13U standout launched a personal-best throw of 92 feet, 6 inches, finishing seventh in the nation and earning AAU All-American honors.

It was a fitting finish to a season that saw Adams continue to establish herself as one of the country’s rising young javelin talents.

Adams entered the Junior Olympics as the No. 5 seed among 95 national qualifiers after putting together an impressive run through the AAU postseason. She captured the AAU District 8 championship before winning the AAU Region 2 championship, where she threw 92 feet, 2 inches to secure her trip to Iowa.

But getting there was only part of the goal.

With All-American status reserved for the top eight finishers at the Junior Olympics, Adams needed to perform against the best competition she had faced all season. She did exactly that, adding another four inches to her personal best and finishing seventh.

The performance capped a remarkable 2026 campaign. Along with her AAU District and Region championships and Junior Olympics All-American finish, Adams also won the Junior High Wyoming Valley Conference championship.

By season’s end, she was ranked 20th nationally among 13U javelin throwers across AAU and USATF competition.

For an athlete still at the junior-high level, the list of accomplishments is already impressive. Yet perhaps the most exciting part of Adams’ season is what it could represent moving forward.

She didn’t simply qualify for the national stage. She produced her best when she got there.

92 feet, 6 inches. Seventh in the nation. All-American.

And for Sophia Adams, this may only be the beginning.
