SCRANTON — Friday night was about more than another victory for Delaware Valley.
The Warriors put together one of their most complete performances of the season, rolling past West Scranton 35-0 and delivering career win No. 200 for longtime head coach Keith Olsommer.
For a Delaware Valley team that has endured its share of challenges this fall, the milestone came with a performance worth celebrating.
The Warriors wasted little time establishing control.
Lucas Purdon intercepted a pass and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown early in the first quarter, giving Delaware Valley a 7-0 lead and setting the tone for the evening.
Devin Estevez followed with a 4-yard touchdown run, and the Warriors carried a 14-0 advantage into the second quarter.
Dylan Bannon added a 2-yard rushing score before Leif-Erik Orby connected with Cole Belcher on a 40-yard touchdown pass, sending Delaware Valley into halftime ahead 28-0.
Estevez capped the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
The Warriors finished with 328 yards of offense, including 268 on the ground. Estevez led the way with 139 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries, while Justin Kizis contributed 70 rushing yards on just two attempts.
Defensively, Delaware Valley held West Scranton to 114 total yards and eight first downs, preserving the shutout.
West Scranton’s Michael Green rushed for 35 yards, while Kaz Colbert recorded five receptions for 63 yards.
Following the victory, Sportzwire’s Jon Noll caught up with Olsommer, who credited his players for a strong team effort.
“I thought our kids played well. I thought defensively we were pretty darn good tonight,” Olsommer said. “It helped Lucas had the pick-six early on. I think that set the tone and really got things going in our favor.”
When asked about reaching 200 victories, Olsommer was quick to reflect on the people who helped make it possible.
“I’m happy for our kids. It’s been a tough season,” Olsommer said. “As far as the 200th win, it just means that I’ve been around an awful long time, and I’ve had the opportunity to coach some really great kids.”
The veteran coach also expressed appreciation for the support Delaware Valley has shown throughout his tenure.
For the Warriors, the victory improves their record to 3-6 and provides some momentum heading into the regular-season finale.
Looking Ahead
Delaware Valley (3-6) travels to Abington Heights next Friday for the annual Battle for the Jug, while West Scranton (3-6) heads to North Pocono to close out its regular season.
For Olsommer, Friday’s milestone adds another chapter to his Delaware Valley coaching career. For his players, it was an opportunity to deliver a memorable victory in a challenging season.
