A dominant pitching performance coupled with a decisive third inning surge propelled the Tunkhannock Varsity Tigers to a 4-0 victory. The Hazleton Area lineup found no answers against a masterful outing, failing to record a single hit throughout the contest.
The game remained scoreless through the first two frames, with both teams battling to gain an edge. Hazleton Area pitcher Isabella Almeida held strong, but the Tunkhannock offense exploded in the bottom of the third. Addisyn Waterman ignited the rally with a bunt single, swiftly stealing second base. Alli Kinney followed with a line drive single to left field, bringing Addisyn Waterman home for the game's first run. After MaKenzie Bevan popped out, Taryn Newswanger reached on an error by third baseman Isabella Boyle, advancing Alli Kinney to second. Michaela Howell then grounded into a fielder's choice, which saw Alli Kinney out at third, but moved Taryn Newswanger to second.
The momentum continued as Kayden Bamberger ripped a line drive single to center field, scoring Taryn Newswanger. Jordyn Burnaford, pinch running for Michaela Howell, advanced to third on the play. Not content, Kianna Hannon then smacked a ground ball single to shortstop Kayla Lagowy, driving in both Kayden Bamberger and Jordyn Burnaford and extending Tunkhannock's lead to 4-0. Hazleton Area's defense struggled to contain the flurry, recording two errors in the inning.
From that point, Tunkhannock's defense and pitching sealed the deal. Michaela Howell was untouchable on the mound, carving through the Hazleton Area batting order with incredible precision, tallying twelve strikeouts over seven no-hit innings to secure the shutout victory. Hazleton Area managed to get a few runners on base through a hit-by-pitch and defensive errors, but could not convert any opportunities into runs. The Tunkhannock defense efficiently handled the few balls put in play, ensuring Michaela Howell's historic performance stood unblemished.
