After a tough loss to a strong Wyoming Area team, the Dallas Mountaineers bounced back to earn their first win of the season on Saturday. The Mountaineers beat the Nanticoke Trojanettes 15-5 in five innings at their home field.
The Mountaineers took the lead early in the bottom of the first inning, scoring four runs on two singles, a wild pitch, and an RBI ground out.
The Mountaineers continued their rally in the second inning, tacking on two more runs.
This momentum carried into the third inning with Dallas scoring five runs on an error, a triple by Annie Osipower, and a double by Madeline DeSanto.
Alyssa Traver led the Mountaineers with three hits in three at bats. The infielder hit two doubles and a single. Elliot Rigol, Annie Osipower, and Emma Eick led Dallas in RBIs, each collecting two.
The Mountaineer offense lit up with the team amassing eleven hits and seven walks in the game. The team continued to cause chaos on the base paths, stealing eight bases in the game.
Lacey Youngblood earned her first varsity win as the winning pitcher for the Mountaineers. The sophomore struck out four, walked two, and gave up six hits and four earned runs in the game.
Natalyn Emel led the Trojanettes with two RBIs. Rilee Ruminski also drilled a home run for the Trojanettes in the loss.
The Mountaineers are preparing to bring this same positive energy into their next game against a competitive Scranton Prep team on Monday. They are hoping that their preparation, energy, and home field advantage will help them achieve a win and continue their winning streak.
