Blue Ridge setter McKenna Zick delivered a performance to remember Friday night, hitting a career milestone while guiding the top seeded Lady Raiders to a 3-0 sweep of No. 8 Elk Lake in the District 2 Class 2A quarterfinals.
Zick notched her 1000th career assist as Blue Ridge (18-1) cruised to victory by set scores of 25-14, 25-12, and 25-17. Her court vision and precision passing fueled an efficient offensive attack that never allowed the Lady Raiders to lose rhythm. She finished with 28 assists and added 13 service points, including two aces.
Outside hitter Abigail Gelinger joined in the celebration, recording 13 kills, including the 500th of her career, along with five blocks. Emily Gorham added eight kills, and Mila Kott contributed five in a balanced effort that showcased the team’s depth and chemistry.
The win sends Blue Ridge to Tuesday’s semifinal doubleheader on their home court. The Lady Raiders will face No. 4 Lake Lehman (12-7) in the nightcap, following the matchup between No. 2 Holy Redeemer (18-3) and No. 6 Western Wayne (11-9) at 5 p.m.
For Elk Lake (6-13), Sally Farrell led the way with four kills and three blocks. Maddy Ely finished with 10 assists and six digs, while Aleece Greenley and Addo Azaravich each chipped in key plays to keep the Warriors battling until the end.
Zick’s milestone night underscored what has made her one of the most consistent playmakers in District 2, a steady leader who continues to elevate everyone around her as Blue Ridge eyes another postseason run.
