SCRANTON, Pa. – Drew University delivered a dominant performance Wednesday night, rolling past the University of Scranton 95-67 at the John Long Center. The Rangers took control early, shooting 70% from the field in the first half, and never looked back in a commanding road win.
The game was a homecoming for Eli Yusavage, a sophomore at Drew and former Valley View standout who helped lead his high school to a league title. Playing in front of family and friends, Yusavage contributed three points and three rebounds in 18 minutes of action.
Drew (95 points) set the tone early with an explosive first half, shooting 21-of-30 (70%) from the field, including 7-of-14 from three-point range, to build a sizable lead. The Rangers kept the pressure on in the second half, shooting 15-of-33 (45.5%) to maintain their control.
Matthew Zenker led all scorers with 27 points, knocking down 5-of-8 from three-point range in an outstanding performance. Peso Crump followed with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while Josh Kline added 13 points. Malcolm Newman contributed 9 points in the victory.
Scranton (67 points) was led by Sammy Tomabene’s 17 points, while Will McLoughlin added 12 points, and Mason Thompson finished with 9 points. However, the Royals struggled with 23 turnovers, leading to 29 Drew points off those mistakes.
Drew controlled the paint, outscoring Scranton 46-30 inside, and dominated in transition with a 30-14 advantage in fast-break points. The Rangers’ depth was also on display, as their bench outscored Scranton’s reserves 30-14.
With the victory, Drew continues its strong run and will look to build on this momentum. Scranton will look to rebound at home on Saturday against Goucher College, with tip-off set for 2 p.m.
