Wyoming Seminary Cruises Past Hanover Area in Commanding Win

KINGSTON, PA — Wyoming Seminary delivered a statement victory Friday night, overpowering Hanover Area 55-16 in a dominant performance on their home court. The Blue Knights showcased their balanced offensive strength and stifling defense, making it a one-sided affair from the opening tip.

The game began with Wyoming Seminary setting the tone early, outscoring Hanover Area 26-4 in the first quarter. Sophomore standout Ella Stambaugh led the charge with her scoring prowess, netting a game-high 20 points on nine field goals and two free throws. By halftime, the Blue Knights had extended their lead to 43-6, leaving little doubt about the outcome.

In the second half, the Blue Knights shifted gears to maintain control and secure the win. Hanover Area showed resilience in the third quarter, scoring 10 of their 16 total points during that stretch, led by Emma Schlingman’s 8-point effort. However, the defensive effort from Wyoming Seminary shut out Hanover Area in the final quarter, sealing the victory.

Blue Knights Shine on Both Ends

Wyoming Seminary displayed a well-rounded performance, with multiple players contributing offensively:

Ella Stambaugh: 20 points, 9 field goals, 2/4 free throws

Clare Griffin: 12 points, 6 field goals

Avery Luksic: 8 points, 4 field goals

Ellie Kersey: 7 points, including a free throw

Maddy Marinello and Stella Ruiz: 4 points each

The team converted 26 field goals and went 3-for-6 from the free-throw line, underscoring their offensive efficiency.

Hanover Area’s Struggles

Hanover Area’s offensive struggles were evident, with only three players scoring. Schlingman led her team with 8 points, while Flora Tirado and Symone Mims added 4 points each. The team did not attempt a single free throw during the game, highlighting their inability to draw fouls and create opportunities at the line.

Dominant Defense

Wyoming Seminary’s defense was relentless, forcing turnovers and limiting Hanover Area to just 16 points—10 of which came in the third quarter. The Blue Knights allowed no points in the final frame, a testament to their disciplined and focused defensive effort.

Looking Ahead

The win propels Wyoming Seminary to their next set of matchups with confidence. Their upcoming schedule includes a home game against Tunkhannock on January 6, followed by a faceoff with Holy Redeemer on January 9.

Hanover Area, meanwhile, will aim to regroup and find their rhythm as they prepare for their next contest.

With this emphatic victory, Wyoming Seminary solidifies its standing as a team to watch this season in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The Blue Knights’ depth, teamwork, and defensive tenacity could make them a formidable force as the season progresses.
