February 25, 2025 – Dallas, PA

Wyoming Area pulled off a stunning upset Tuesday night, defeating Dallas 69-61 on the road to claim the third seed from District 2 in the Pennsylvania 4A state playoffs. The victory avenged a 69-42 loss to the Mountaineers in the Wyoming Valley Conference playoffs earlier this season and marked a major milestone for the Warriors’ program.

Dallas came out strong, opening the game with an 11-0 run and taking a 21-11 lead after the first quarter. However, Wyoming Area responded by locking in defensively and gradually chipping away at the deficit. By halftime, the Warriors had cut the lead to just two, trailing 26-24.

Wyoming Area took control in the second half behind the stellar play of Lukas Burakiewicz and Luke Kopetchny, who each poured in 27 points. Burakiewicz knocked down three three-pointers, while Kopetchny dominated at the free-throw line, converting 16 of 19 attempts. Anthony DeLucca added nine points, hitting three shots from beyond the arc.

Dallas was led by Jude Nocito, who put up a game-high 30 points, including four three-pointers. Pat Flanagan added 10 points, while Joey Nocito chipped in eight. However, the Mountaineers struggled to get to the free-throw line, attempting just six free throws compared to Wyoming Area’s 24.

The Warriors’ ability to convert at the stripe (20-for-24) proved to be a key factor down the stretch, allowing them to maintain their lead and secure the win.

With the victory, Wyoming Area moves on to face the No. 2 seed from District 4 in the opening round of the PIAA 4A state tournament. This upset marks a huge step forward for the program and sets the stage for an exciting postseason run.
