Wilkes-Barre Area used a big third inning and clutch relief pitching to take down Nanticoke Area, 5–2, on Monday afternoon.

After falling behind 1–0 in the top of the first, the Wolfpack responded with a three-run burst in the third inning to grab momentum and never looked back. Alex Hufford led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Omar Jerez added a hit, a run, and an RBI, while Jacob Chupka chipped in with an RBI single.

Wilkes-Barre’s pitching staff held firm throughout. Freshman Ben Thomas got the start and allowed just one run over 2.1 innings before Koleton Davies and Nathan Fritz combined for 4.2 innings of steady relief. Fritz closed the door with two scoreless innings and four strikeouts.

Nanticoke’s Derek Miller pitched well in the loss, going six innings and giving up just two earned runs while striking out four. At the plate, Miller also drove in both of the Trojans’ runs, finishing 2-for-2. Derek Shemanski also contributed with two hits for Nanticoke.

With the win, Wilkes-Barre Area improves to 7–4 on the season and continues to build momentum behind a strong stretch of team baseball.
