Wilkes-Barre, PA – A sixth-inning offensive explosion propelled the Wilkes-Barre Varsity Wolfpack past the visiting North Pocono Trojans, 8-4, in a thrilling high school baseball matchup Friday afternoon.

The game started as a seesaw battle, with North Pocono striking first on a gutsy steal of home in the second inning. Wilkes-Barre responded in the third when James Bottger roped a double down the left field line to even the score.

North Pocono momentarily regained the lead in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Josh Staples, but the Wolfpack refused to back down. Ben Thomas came through with a game-tying single to right, knotting things at 2-2.

After the Trojans edged ahead once more in the sixth behind a Rory McAndrew RBI single, Wilkes-Barre erupted for six runs in the bottom half of the inning. The momentum-shifting frame featured four hits and was punctuated by a clutch bases-clearing double off the bat of Omar Jerez, putting the Wolfpack firmly in control.

Ben Thomas earned the win on the mound with four solid innings in relief, while Derrick Nah started the game strong with three innings of one-run ball. Josh Staples took the loss for North Pocono.

At the plate, Jerez led the Wolfpack with three RBIs, while Thomas and Dalton Flowers each collected two hits. The team’s patience was on full display, drawing 11 walks throughout the game.

North Pocono showed aggression on the basepaths, swiping five bags, and remained error-free in the field. McAndrew led the Trojans with two hits and an RBI.

The Wolfpack will look to carry their momentum into Tuesday’s home game against Hughesville.
