WILKES-BARRE, PA — On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, the Wilkes-Barre Area Wolfpack delivered a dominant performance against the Crestwood Comets, securing a commanding 53-30 victory on their home court. Wilkes-Barre Area’s balanced scoring attack and stifling defense proved too much for Crestwood, as the Wolfpack controlled the game from start to finish.

Strong Start Sets the Tone

The Wolfpack jumped out to a fast start, outscoring Crestwood 15-3 in the first quarter. Their defensive pressure disrupted Crestwood’s offensive rhythm early, holding the Comets to a single field goal in the opening eight minutes. Wilkes-Barre’s aggressive offense, fueled by sharp shooting from beyond the arc, allowed them to build an early cushion.

Crestwood showed signs of life in the second quarter, scoring 7 points while limiting Wilkes-Barre to 8. However, the Wolfpack maintained control with their defensive efforts, entering halftime with a comfortable 23-10 lead.

Second Half Surge

After halftime, Wilkes-Barre exploded offensively. Led by David Jannuzzi’s scoring outburst, the Wolfpack tallied 19 points in the third quarter alone, their highest-scoring period of the game. Jannuzzi connected on multiple field goals, including two three-pointers, contributing heavily to his game-high 16 points.

Crestwood struggled to find consistent scoring throughout the second half, posting just 8 points in the third quarter. Ayden Agapito was a bright spot for the Comets, finishing with a team-high 8 points.

The fourth quarter saw both teams slow down offensively. Wilkes-Barre scored 11 points while Crestwood managed 12, their highest quarter total. However, it wasn’t enough to cut into the Wolfpack’s commanding lead, as Wilkes-Barre sealed the win with a final score of 53-30.

Analysis and Takeaways

Wilkes-Barre’s victory was powered by a combination of sharp perimeter shooting and a stifling defense that limited Crestwood’s offensive opportunities. The Wolfpack drained seven three-pointers, while Crestwood failed to convert a single attempt from beyond the arc.

Defensively, Wilkes-Barre forced difficult shots and controlled the pace of the game. Their 15-3 first-quarter advantage set the tone early and forced Crestwood to play catch-up throughout the contest.

On the other hand, Crestwood struggled with offensive consistency, as no player reached double figures in scoring. Despite a solid effort from Agapito and Grevera, the Comets were unable to generate enough scoring to challenge the Wolfpack’s lead.

Looking Ahead

Wilkes-Barre Area will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup as they continue to establish themselves as a top contender in the league. Crestwood, meanwhile, will aim to regroup and focus on improving their offensive efficiency moving forward.

This victory further solidifies Wilkes-Barre’s dominance in league play and highlights their depth and balanced scoring approach, key factors as the season progresses.
