The West Scranton Jr. Invaders opened their 2025 season with more than just excitement for the games ahead—they began with a heartfelt tribute to the man who was the heart and soul of their program, the late Coach Tommy Selemba.

Earlier this year, the Jr. Invaders lost their longtime president, dedicated coach, and beloved friend. Tommy’s passing left an undeniable void, but tonight, the community came together to make sure his spirit and legacy will live on for generations.

Keeping tradition alive, the Jr. Invaders hosted their annual bonfire at their home field. But this year, the flames burned with extra meaning. Players, coaches, families, and supporters gathered for a touching slideshow of memories—snapshots of sideline laughs, game day grit, and the countless moments Tommy made special. The soundtrack for the night came courtesy of Pearl Jam, Tommy’s favorite band, with the crowd singing along and smiling through tears.

In a deeply moving moment, the organization unveiled a memorial plaque that will hang permanently in the newly renovated press box—ensuring Tommy will always overlook the field he helped build and the kids he loved like family.

Tommy’s sayings have become part of the Jr. Invaders’ identity, lighthearted but full of heart. “Say it back, make it weird!” echoed in the crowd, a playful nod to his infectious spirit. And as the fire’s glow faded into the night, the community honored him in the way he would have wanted most—with a laugh, a smile, and one final rallying cry:

"Stay Sexy, West Side."
