The future of Invader Nation looks bright.
The West Scranton Jr. High football team claimed the inaugural Lackawanna Conference Jr. High Super Bowl with a commanding 46–20 victory over Dunmore, powered by a performance that won’t soon be forgotten.
Austin Sostre led the charge with four touchdowns, two through the air (20 and 37 yards) and two long rushing scores (52 and 80 yards).
Darius Bess added a 60-yard rushing touchdown to help secure the win and bring home the first-ever Jr. Super Bowl title for the Invaders.
But for Sostre, the night carried a deeper meaning. He played in honor of his late Jr. Invaders coach, Tommy Selemba, who passed away earlier this year.
“Coach Tommy was like a second parent to me,” Sostre shared. “I wanted to win this one for him he’d do anything for me, I love 'em.”
Selemba’s guidance and love for his players left a lasting impact on the West Scranton youth football community. For Sostre, his four-touchdown performance was more than athletic excellence, it was a heartfelt tribute to a mentor who helped shape his love for the game.
Looking ahead, the Jr. Invaders A-Team will take the field Sunday at John Henzes Memorial Stadium in the ACCJFL Super Bowl against a talented Dunmore Bucks A-Team. Two well-coached, football-loving communities will square off for the title, a fitting showcase of what makes local youth football so special.
No matter the outcome, Coach Tommy’s influence and the passion of players like Sostre serve as a reminder of what the game is truly about - heart, family, and legacy.
