Week 4 Lackawanna League Cluster Meets Deliver Record Runs and Razor-Thin Finishes

The Lackawanna League Cluster Meets brought electrifying races and pivotal team battles as intra-cluster scoring heated up. Mid Valley’s boys edged Riverside 27-29, with Jacob Borrelli’s record-breaking 16:37 leading the charge. Elk Lake’s boys dominated with a 1-2-3 sweep, Kendel Jones clocking a historic 15:30 at Valley View. Wallenpaupack’s Aiden Janowicz outkicked Maxx Kelly by 0.3 seconds (16:44.1) for a thrilling win. On the girls’ side, Abington’s Anna Pucilowski ran an unmatched 18:21 to secure a 23-36 victory over Elk Lake, while Old Forge’s girls won a razor-thin 27-28 battle against Mid Valley. Wallenpaupack’s depth outlasted Delaware Valley by three points, and Scranton Prep’s tight pack swept their cluster.


Boys' Highlights
Mid Valley preserved their undefeated streak in a tight home-course 2 point win over Riverside. Jacob Borrelli smashed the course and school record with a 16:37, outpacing Riverside’s Mikey Schimelfenig, who unleashed a fierce kick to take second (16:51) over West Scranton’s Seamus Wallace (16:52). Riverside’s Jack Davies and Andrew Connor pushed Mid Valley’s Matthew Repecki in a thrilling race for fourth, with Connor claiming it in (17:24) and Davies fifth (17:25). Mid Valley’s next four runners sealed the victory, though Riverside, missing a top scorer, hinted at a closer rematch.

Elk Lake’s Kendel Jones, Cody Adams, and Parker Upright swept first through third, keeping their record spotless. Jones’ (15:30) may be the fastest ever on the Valley View course, followed by Adams (16:08) and Upright (16:19). They gapped Abington Heights’ Tim Fogley (fourth, 16:51) by over 30 seconds. Trevor Upright took fifth (17:07), edging out Blue Ridge’s Paxton Pingarelli (17:11) and Abington Heights’ Jack Shoemaker (17:13) in a tight pack.

Wallenpaupack’s Aiden Janowicz clinched first by a mere 0.3 seconds over Maxx Kelly (16:44.1 vs. 16:44.4), leading the Buckhorns to four cluster wins. Their depth shone with Chase Predmore (third, 17:39), Daniel Salinas (fourth, 18:08), and Benson Kizer (fifth, 18:08) sweeping third through seventh.

Lackawanna Trail’s Avery Ronchi outran Lakeland’s Henry Decker on Decker’s home course, winning 16:49 to 16:56 in a season-long rivalry. They distanced Holy Cross’ Thomas Gavin (third, 17:38) by over 40 seconds. Scranton Prep’s depth secured five cluster wins, with Gavin Gallagher (17:50) and Nicholas Michel (18:19) in fourth and fifth, backed by a strong pack from fourth to 13th.


Girls' Highlights
This Valley View showdown likely crowned the Team League Champion, with Abington, Elk Lake, and Valley View all undefeated. Abington’s Anna Pucilowski dominated with an 18:21, 33 seconds ahead of Elk Lake’s Kendyl Weisgold (18:54). Valley View’s Sadie Loftus took third (19:34), followed by Montrose’s Avery Kerr (19:52). Abington’s Marley and Calli Gilboy (19:59, 20:05) in fifth and sixth powered a 23-36 win over Elk Lake, while Elk Lake’s eighth- and ninth-place runners edged Valley View 25-30.

In the week’s tightest race, Old Forge’s Blue Devils nipped Mid Valley’s Lady Spartans by one point. Scranton’s Bianca Perez-Temozi set a course record at 22:00, passing Mid Valley’s Olivia Thomas (22:58, school record). Old Forge’s Elena Biakowski (third, 23:16), Brynn Negvesky (fourth, 24:09), and Cali Talarico (fifth, 25:06) formed a strong pack. Mid Valley’s seventh-through-ninth finishers kept it close but couldn’t claim the cluster.

Wallenpaupack’s depth placed their top five in the top 13, outscoring Delaware Valley by three points on the Mountain View course. Delaware Valley’s Grace Holderith stayed unbeaten (19:37), setting up a blockbuster clash with Pucilowski next week. Wallenpaupack’s June Brown took second (20:23), followed by Susquehanna’s Kiera Burk (third, 20:59), Honesdale’s Katherine Legg (fourth, 21:18), and Wallenpaupack’s Brenna Brandt (fifth, 22:14).

Scranton Prep’s depth swept the cluster, with eight runners between fifth and 13th and their top five within a minute. Kaitlyn Kloss won decisively in 21:17, nearly a minute ahead of Holy Cross’ Gemma Bistran (22:14). Lakeland’s Rylin Wech took third (22:34), Holy Cross’ Grace Donohue fourth (23:58), and Scranton Prep’s Ella Schofield fifth (24:02).me
