Wyoming Area boys basketball has started the 2025–26 season with a statement, rolling to a 6–0 record through mid-December and asserting itself early in the Wyoming Valley Conference. Last season, the Warriors earned a pivotal 69–61 victory over Dallas in the District 2 third-place game to punch their ticket to the PIAA state playoffs, gaining valuable experience on the state stage against powerhouse Shamokin. That postseason moment appears to have set the tone for a group that entered this winter more confident, composed, and prepared for pressure.
The early success has been driven by balance and consistency on both ends of the floor. Wyoming Area is averaging over 60 points per game, winning close contests while also proving capable of pulling away when opportunities present themselves. Their ability to control tempo, defend with purpose, and execute late has been evident throughout the opening stretch, signaling a team that understands how to win different styles of games — a critical trait as conference play intensifies.
At the center of the Warriors’ rise is dynamic guard Luke Kopetchny, whose scoring ability and floor leadership have fueled Wyoming Area’s offensive rhythm. Supported by veteran contributors such as Shane Pepe and Drew Keating, the Warriors boast a blend of experience and emerging talent that has translated into early momentum. Wyoming Area looks to continue its unbeaten start tonight at Berwick in a 7:15 p.m. conference matchup, another opportunity to measure itself as it pushes toward the heart of the season and, potentially, another postseason run.
