In a game that was decided almost from the first pitch, Wallenpaupack’s Varsity Buckhorns steamrolled Scranton 17-0 in a dominant four-inning mercy-rule victory on Thursday evening. The Buckhorns erupted for 3 runs in the first, 6 in the second, and tacked on 4 apiece in the third and fourth innings. From the circle to the batter’s box, every facet of the game belonged to Wallenpaupack.

Sophomore standout Madison Haynes (#2) was electric at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with 4 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Her leadoff hitting and speed on the base paths set the tone early, including a line-drive single to center in the first that plated a run and turned into a two-base advancement on the throw.

Clara Babyak (#15) pulled double duty, delivering on both offense and defense. From the pitcher’s circle, Babyak shut down Scranton with ease, allowing just one hit while striking out multiple batters—highlighted by back-to-back swinging Ks in the second inning . Offensively, she was equally productive, going 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a walk.

Gabby Hieber (#99) and Josie Leighton (#12) were red-hot at the plate. Both went 2-for-2, combining for 4 RBIs and 4 runs scored. Hieber drove in two, while Leighton’s hits kept the Buckhorns rolling with back-to-back rallies in the second and third innings.

Kailyn Kielbasa (#17) turned in one of the game’s most impressive stat lines, going 2-for-2 with 4 RBIs and a walk. Her clutch situational hitting widened the gap and kept Scranton’s defense scrambling.

Alexa Laing (#18) and Alli Sterner (#8) each tallied 2 runs scored, with Sterner also driving in one. Sarah Decker (#1) and Reagan Anderson (#7) chipped in with runs and hits of their own as Wallenpaupack tallied 16 hits on the day.

Scranton’s lone bright spot came in the form of a bunt single by center fielder Peno (#7), their only hit of the afternoon . Wallenpaupack’s defense remained airtight, turning clean groundouts and forcing fielder’s choices when runners did reach base.

Pitcher Bergman (#8) and the rest of the Scranton defense had no answer for the Buckhorns’ relentless pressure. Wallenpaupack walked six times and struck out just once in 26 plate appearances, showcasing discipline and execution throughout.
