The Junior throws three-hitter, goes 4-for-4 with 2 HRs as Cougars explode for 14 hits in five-inning win
Valley View junior Abbi Call put on an all-around masterclass Friday afternoon, reaching the 200-strikeout milestone in dominant fashion and backing it up at the plate with a perfect 4-for-4 outing, including two home runs and four RBIs, as the Cougars cruised to a 14-3 victory over Thomas Jefferson in five innings.
Call went the distance in the circle, allowing just three hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out nine and walking three across five innings. She threw 92 pitches — 64 of them for strikes — and was in control from the start, earning the win while surpassing 200 career strikeouts.
But Call wasn’t done — her bat stayed just as hot as her arm. She crushed two home runs and added a double, finishing with 11 total bases on the day. Her offensive dominance helped power Valley View to a blistering eight-run fourth inning that sealed the game early.
Senior slugger Taylor Cawley was equally unstoppable, going 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Behind Call and Cawley, the Cougars racked up 14 hits and scored in every inning except the third.
Sophomore Cora Castellani stayed consistent in the two-hole, going 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Behind the dish, catcher Brynn Hallett provided more pop, going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and two RBIs.
Shortstop Kalli Karwowski went 1-for-3, scoring twice and stealing a base. Third baseman Ella Swingle added a hit, a walk, and a run scored, while outfielders Lila Smith, Madison Minelli, and Ava Palickar all contributed on the basepaths as well.
Thomas Jefferson was held to just three hits by Call — one each from O. Stock, A. Chalovich, and M. Alisesky. The Jaguars’ pitching staff struggled to contain the Cougars, combining to allow 14 hits, four home runs, and 12 earned runs in just four innings.
With the win, Valley View continues to roll behind its dominant pitching and a lineup that’s producing up and down the order.
