Valley View’s softball team wasted no time showing why they’re off to a dominant start this season, using a huge second inning to power past Holy Redeemer, 11-1, on Tuesday afternoon.
The Cougars broke open a scoreless game in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs in a frame that showcased their depth and power. Senior shortstop Kalli Karwowski, who’s hitting .500 with 3 home runs and 5 RBIs in just two games, crushed a two-run homer to center. That came after RBI contributions from Emily Moyles (.333 average, 2 RBIs) and Ashlyn Palickar (.667 average). Junior pitcher Abbi Call (.200 average at the plate), who also earned the win in the circle, added to the offensive outburst with a two-run home run of her own to left field.
Valley View continued to pile on in the sixth inning. Moyles launched her first homer of the year, a solo shot, and senior Taylor Cawley — already with 5 RBIs on the season — cleared the bases with a three-run double. Junior center fielder Zoie Krupovich (.286 average) added the finishing touch with an RBI double, giving her three RBIs through two games.
Call was equally impressive in the circle. She threw six strong innings, allowing just one unearned run on five hits while striking out four. Her early season ERA remains perfect through two starts.
The Cougars’ lineup combined for 13 hits. Castellani leads the team with a red-hot .667 average after going 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Swingle (.500 average), Moyles, and Palickar each added two hits. Maggie Hallett (.286 average) also contributed with a single and steady play behind the plate.
On the other side, Holy Redeemer struggled to string together offense. Five different players recorded singles, but Call kept them from doing any serious damage. Redeemer’s pitcher, Anne Carter, allowed 11 runs on 13 hits over 5 1/3 innings, despite recording five strikeouts.
This marks Valley View’s second lopsided win of the young season after shutting out Parkland 10-0 in their opener. With big bats, solid defense, and reliable pitching, the Cougars are quickly establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with in 2025.
Valley View will look to stay perfect when they travel to Old Forge on Monday.
