Valley View stacked explosive plays with a bruising ground game and pulled away from Wyoming Valley West 52 to 21 on Friday night at Spartan Stadium. The Cougars outgained the Spartans 391 to 260 and scored in all four quarters, leaning on depth at running back, a clean night from sophomore quarterback Caleb Brown, and steady special teams from sophomore kicker Braden Loff.
The Cougars opened with a quick strike. With 10 minutes and 7 seconds left in the first quarter, Brown connected with senior Gabe Davis on a 35 yard touchdown, and Loff’s kick made it 7 to 0. Wyoming Valley West answered early in the second quarter when sophomore quarterback Damien Eastman hit senior John Richards on a 64 yard pass to even the score. But the tie lasted just seconds as Davis took the ensuing kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown, reclaiming momentum and sparking the Valley View sideline.
Valley View’s offensive line then took control. Sophomore running back Brady Bachman capped a short drive with a 4 yard touchdown run, and junior Tristan Smith followed with a 29 yard score to extend the lead to 28 to 7. Eastman and Richards connected again from 59 yards late in the half to cut the deficit to 28 to 14 heading into the break.
The Cougars maintained control in the third quarter. Loff drilled a 34 yard field goal midway through the frame to stretch the lead to 31 to 14. Senior fullback Aidan Muchal powered in a 3 yard touchdown run with 1 minute and 26 seconds left in the quarter, pushing the advantage to 38 to 14.
Valley View’s depth shined in the fourth quarter as fresh legs sealed the win. Sophomore Janzier Rivera sprinted 19 yards for a touchdown at the 8 minute 59 second mark, and sophomore Ethan Heid added a 5 yard run two minutes later to make it 52 to 14. Valley West’s Amor Sims capped the scoring with a 1 yard plunge in the final minutes.
Valley View finished with 20 first downs, 43 rushes for 251 yards, and five rushing touchdowns. Brown went 8 for 14 for 140 yards and one passing touchdown, while the Cougars committed no turnovers. Loff went 7 for 7 on extra points and added a 34 yard field goal, totaling 10 points on the night.
For Wyoming Valley West, Eastman completed 11 of 22 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns, both to Richards, who caught six passes for 156 yards. The Spartans managed 69 rushing yards on 25 attempts, led by Malique Campbell’s 42 yards on nine carries. Kicker Emmanuel Dagdag was perfect on all three extra point attempts.
Valley View’s second quarter burst proved decisive. Davis’s back to back scores, a 35 yard reception followed by an 80 yard kickoff return, shifted momentum permanently toward the Cougars. Behind a dominant line, Valley View outgained Valley West on the ground 251 to 69 and never looked back, improving their season mark with another balanced offensive performance.
