MOUNTAIN TOP — Valley View pounded out a season-opening first road win Friday night, leaning on a physical ground game and timely special teams to beat Crestwood, 24–13. The Cougars led 10–0 at halftime, saw the Comets surge back in the third, and then iced it on Jeffery Wasilchak’s second short touchdown run with 1:57 to play.
Scoring summary: Wasilchak opened the night with a 2-yard run in the second quarter, followed by a 41-yard field goal from Braden Loff to make it 10–0 at the break. After halftime, Tyler Muchal’s 2-yard run stretched the lead to 17–0 before Crestwood answered with a Jaden Shedlock 8-yard keeper and a 30-yard touchdown pass from Shedlock to Rodgers. In the fourth, Wasilchak’s second 2-yard plunge restored a two-score cushion. Loff was perfect on three PATs.
By the numbers: Valley View controlled the tempo on the ground, rushing 47 times for 178 yards and three touchdowns while limiting mistakes in the passing game (7 of 17 for 61 yards, 0 INT). The Cougars held a 17–13 edge in first downs and got a takeaway on defense; Ashby Bachman recorded an interception. Crestwood finished with 118 rushing yards and 121 passing yards, but Valley View’s defense closed the door in the fourth.
Cougars of note: Jeffery Wasilchak (2 rushing TDs), Tyler Muchal (1 rushing TD), and kicker Braden Loff (41-yard FG, 3 PATs) accounted for all 24 points, while the front seven wore down the Comets with consistent early-down stops.
