For years, Scranton Prep has always been an obstacle for Valley View in achieving their goal for a District 2 Championship. Beyon McLean had a game high 26 points and Noah Veno added 13 points as Valley View took the District 2 4A Crown as they defeated Scranton Prep 66-53. “This is a great feeling. I’m just happy for our guys. It’s been a long coming. We’ve been runner-up the last two years. To finally break through, it’s something special.” Said Cougars head coach Mike Kurpis.

After each team traded baskets, Valley View outscored the Cavaliers 16-3 to lead 18-5. The Cougars built their lead up to 17 but just before halftime, Scranton Prep went on a 10-0 run and trailed 31-24 at halftime and got technical free throws to start the second half.

Bryson Martin hit both technical free throws to trail by five. Jack Maloney hit a three pointer to only trail by two. After McLean hit a pair of free throws to increase the lead back to four. Maloney and Chicky Skoff hit back to back baskets to tie the game at 33. Valley View got the lead back on free throws and a three pointer by Veno. The Cougars built up the lead to 47-40 at the end of the third quarter.

McLean hit a pair of free throws to make it a nine point lead. Packy Doherty hit a three pointer to cut it six but that was the closest Scranton Prep could get as Valley View pulled away to take the District 2 4A Title. After the game, McLean would not let go of the District Champion Plaque. “I love it. It’s so great to finally hold it. It’s been a long three years but we finally got it.” Said McLean. For Scranton Prep, Brycen Martin had a team high 17 points and Ambrose Rossi added 11 points.
