In a dominant display on Tuesday, the Tunkhannock Area High School softball team cruised to a 10-0 victory over Elk Lake Junior/Senior High School. The Tigers controlled the game from start to finish, scoring in every inning and holding Elk Lake scoreless.
Leading the offensive charge for Tunkhannock was senior Erin Van Ness, who went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Fellow senior Emily Patton also had an outstanding performance at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBIs. Sophomore Addisyn Waterman chipped in with two hits and an RBI, while junior Alli Kinney went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and one RBI.
On the mound, senior McKenzie Hannon was nearly untouchable, pitching a complete game shutout over five innings. Hannon allowed just one hit, walked three, and struck out seven, completely shutting down Elk Lake’s offense.
Elk Lake’s only hit came from senior Leah Traver, while senior pitcher Marissa Horn put up a valiant effort, striking out six despite allowing 11 hits and 10 runs (five earned) over 4 2/3 innings.
Tunkhannock’s relentless offensive pressure and Hannon’s commanding presence on the mound sealed the victory early. The Tigers continue their strong start to the season, while Elk Lake looks to regroup before their next game.
