The Tunkhannock Tigers softball team took down their conference rivals, the Dallas Mountaineers, 6-2 on May 8. This was the second meeting this season between the two schools, with Dallas winning the first matchup 6-5 back on April 17. The win marked the ninth straight for the Tigers as they improved to 16-1 on the season.

The key contributors for the Tigers offensively were Erin Van Ness and Alli Kinney. Van Ness, who is committed to play softball at Lock Haven next year, went 3-for-4 with a single, double, and a home run. The senior continued to add to her already impressive numbers both for this season and her career. Kinney went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and a two-run home run. Kinney said about her home run, “It meant a lot to me, especially because it was against Dallas.”

Pitching-wise for Tunkhannock, McKenzie Hannon, who is also committed to Lock Haven, pitched a complete game for the Tigers. The senior allowed only two runs on five hits while striking out eight Mountaineers.

For the Mountaineers’ offense, it was a tough assignment, and they did not get their first base runner until the fifth inning on a single from Carolyn Comitz. Comitz went 2-for-3 and added an RBI. Alyssa Traver contributed an RBI single of her own as the Mountaineers attempted a comeback. The team strung together competitive at-bats, but a complete defensive performance from Tunkhannock stopped them.

On the mound for Dallas, it was a quality outing for starter Nina Barrouk. She allowed five runs (two earned) and gave up six hits while registering 11 strikeouts against a potent Tigers order. Lexi Berecin pitched one inning of relief and allowed one run.

For the Mountaineers, the loss ended an impressive eight-game winning streak. They will be back in action on May 9 on the road against Scranton Prep. The Tigers will face Wyoming Valley West at home on May 12 to close out conference play.
