The march toward Marywood is underway, and the Tunkhannock Lady Tigers are out front with purpose.
Opening their District 2 Class 4A playoff run as the top seed, Tunkhannock flexed in a dominant 15-0 win over Hanover Area, reminding everyone why they’re not just the district top dogs —but a top-3 team in the entire state.
Up next? A semifinal showdown with #5 seed Wyoming Area, who advanced after edging out Wallenpaupack in their first-round battle.
Meanwhile, the other side of the bracket features a heavyweight clash between #2 Valley View and #3 Dallas—the only team to hand Tunkhannock a loss this season.

Tunkhannock’s roster is built for postseason pressure—eight returning starters from last year’s district runner-up team are leading the charge.
McKenzie Hannon, now 17-1, is closing in on 150 strikeouts and remains the ace in the circle. Erin Van Ness, already the school’s all-time leader in hits and RBIs, is hitting a scorching .569 and anchoring the heart of the order.
Sophomore spark plug Addisyn Waterman has been electric as the table-setter, hitting .541 with 28 stolen bases and 35 runs scored.
Joining the breakout list is sophomore catcher Makenzie Bevan, who added exclamation points in the opening-round win with a grand slam and continues to elevate her presence at the plate and behind it. Her clutch bat adds another dimension to an already dangerous lineup.
All Roads Lead to Marywood
With only the District 2 champion earning a bid to the PIAA state tournament, the margin for error is razor thin. A title run means running the table against a loaded bracket, with the final set for May 28 at Marywood University.
Should the bracket hold, a potential Tunkhannock vs. Valley View final looms—a matchup between two of the state’s elite. But first, the Lady Tigers must handle business against a gritty Wyoming Area squad looking to play spoiler.
