In a small school nestled in the heart of Schuylkill County, one name echoes through the gymnasium walls, the baseball fields, and the golf greens, Trey Keating.
A senior at Nativity BVM High School, Trey has become much more than just an athlete. He’s a scholar, a leader, a role model, and above all, a humble young man who gives credit where it’s due. He is Sportzwire's 'Wired' Athlete of the Week powered by Envy Electrical.
When you talk to Trey Keating about basketball, his eyes light up. It’s more than just a game—it’s a part of his identity.
"I’ve played since I could walk," Trey said. "I love the atmosphere of high school games and playing in front of the community. It just comes naturally."
That natural ability has translated into an impressive resume. Since his freshman year, he has started every season, setting the school record for the most three-pointers made by a freshman (91). By his junior year, Trey had racked up over 1,500 points, made 1st Team All-State in Class A, and 1st Team All-State 2A his freshman season, and became a three-time Schuylkill League scoring leader. Last season, he was instrumental in leading Nativity to a Division title and a 3rd-place District finish.
During the off-season, he sharpened his skills with the PA Flight program, earning Zero Gravity MVP honors during a highly competitive 2025 spring and summer circuit.
But even with the accolades, Trey remains grounded.
“I try not to get caught up in the numbers, referring to D1, D2, or D3,” he said. “It’s about the best fit—for me, for my education, and for my athletic future. I want to go somewhere I’m going to have an impact.”
Trey is quick to highlight those who’ve molded him into the player and person he is today. At the top of that list is his dad.
“We’d rent out a gym and spend hours in it,” Trey recalls. “It wasn’t always fun. My dad is hard on me—but it was the best for me. I learned how to take criticism, and it made me mentally tougher.”
He also credits Coach Brady Burke, who constantly encourages Trey to stay in the gym, and trainer Derek Flail of The Jungle in Schuylkill Haven, who has pushed him physically and mentally through agility, mobility, and weight training. “He pushes me to my limits. He really cares.”
While basketball might be Trey’s first love, he’s also a standout in golf and baseball, a rare trifecta of varsity-level talent.
He didn’t even start playing golf until his sophomore year, yet now he’s helping lead a 15-1 team toward a Division and League Championship. He’ll compete in the individual championship as well. Trey attributes the team’s turnaround to Coach Will Waldick, saying:
“He’s incredibly dedicated. He took a bottom-of-the-barrel team and helped turn it all around.”
In baseball, Trey made an immediate impact as a freshman and sophomore, helping Nativity win their first-ever District title his sophomore season. He stepped away his junior year to focus on basketball but plans to return for his senior season. “I didn’t want to join the team last year if I couldn’t give them 100%. They deserved that.” He still laughs about the District championship celebration, sprinting from left field to join the dogpile so fast his hat flew off.
It’s not just athletics where Trey shines. He’s a Distinguished Honor student, takes multiple AP courses, and is a member of the National Honor Society. With a GPA over 4.0, he’s considering studying Math or Engineering, two fields that match his analytical mind and love for numbers.
This year, Trey also serves as the Student Body President. He’s active in school events, volunteers at youth basketball camps, and takes pride in representing Nativity in all that he does.
“I love being involved in the community,” he said. “I want to stay connected to sports in some way—maybe coaching, training, or promoting athletes like people have done for me.”
Trey Keating is the kind of athlete every coach dreams of. Talented, coachable, and relentless. But what sets him apart is his humility and heart. In a world where it’s easy to chase clout or stats, Trey stays focused on what really matters—team, growth, community, and passion.
As he enters his senior year, Trey is soaking in every moment. He’s not chasing attention—he’s chasing excellence.
And Nativity BVM is better for it.
Written in admiration of an athlete who leads with character, excels with grace, and inspires through action. The future is bright for Trey Keating, and whatever path he takes, he’s sure to leave a legacy far beyond the scoreboard.
A special thank you to our partners at Envy Electrical for helping us shine some light on these athletes week in and week out this year.
